Ever wanted to design your own website, video game or app? Explore the building blocks behind your favorite programs in this interactive, skill-building course. Students will learn the basics of coding and computer science while applying their knowledge through exciting challenges and hands-on projects. This course is a great way to prepare youngsters for a technology-driven world.

Course Description

This introductory course is ideal for kids ages 8 - 12 who want to learn, build and create with code. Students will begin experimenting with visual blocks that help them understand key programming concepts. Next, they'll progress to JavaScript and Python as they design games, build apps and produce their own unique projects. This class features:

  • Individual and team skill-building activities
  • Core skills such as sequencing, logic and critical thinking
  • Weekly take-home coding challenges and puzzles
  • Kid-friendly, personalized coding program
  • A final capstone project that challenges students to design their own app or game

Technology Used

  • Software - Tynker, JavaScript
  • Hardware – Laptops provided

  • Students will code and design 2 of their own games or apps
  • Learn and apply key concepts and terms in coding and programming
  • Upon completing this class, students earn a Blaze Explorer Badge and are eligible for our Intermediate Level class.
